We live on a hill with long, gravel driveway. At times in the winter, this driveway can get a tad icy. Today, when we were going to drive out, we were blocked by a parked SUV. I walked down to find a nervous young man sitting behind the wheel of his running 4×4 vehicle.
“I’m lost and I’m stuck. I’m going to call AAA.”
“You may be lost, but you’re not stuck. You’re just spinning on a little patch of ice. Backup into that snow-covered turnaround where you’ll have traction. I’ll show you where to go and I’ll push you off this ice.”
“I’m afraid I’ll slide off of your driveway and down that cliff.”
“There’s no cliff, but that snowbank would stop you anyway. Just go slow and easy. You’ll be fine.”
“Maybe I should call AAA.”
“You’re not stuck. This is no big deal. Hey, where are you from?”
“Miami.”
“You don’t say.”
