Maybe it was his Ontario upbringing or his mid-70s hit, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald (probably both), but Gordon Lightfoot’s music always reminded me of Lake Superior and northern Minnesota. As young parents, we would often pack the kids and leave home at 3am to do a quick camping trip up Superior’s shore. His music was, more often than not, the backdrop of those mystic sun-rising-over-the-great-inland-sea mornings.
This singer/poet/songwriter was easily one of my favorite musicians.
RIP Gordon Lightfoot.
