For Early Risers Who Wish It Could Be Morning All Day

Spontaneous Sunroof Explosion

Well, this is a new one. We are driving down the highway when we heard a startling overhead explosion. Pulling over revealed this — a shattered sunroof.

At first, I thought someone must have shot it out. I scanned my remote wooded surroundings for a sniper, but saw no one — though I suppose they could have been wearing camo. With no other cars to around, it couldn’t have been a rock. But later, upon searching Google, I found that spontaneous sunroof explosions is “a thing.”

Of course, this freak incident had to happen on a rainy day.

After forking out $607 to repair a window I never use, I complained to Honda. They didn’t care. They said it must have been a rock. When I told them it was an early Sunday morning and no other cars were on the road, they were unimpressed — apparently believing that the spontaneous explosion above our heads must have been caused by a meteorite.

How convenient.

I bumped into this more recent rendition of Ennio Morricone’s great work by accident. And I have to agree with one of its YouTube posts: “There are two kinds of people in this world: those who consider this a masterpiece and those who are wrong.”

Re-watching these two 1980ish science fiction classics reminded me that Sigourney Weaver not only had to fight off the terrifying alien(s), but she also had to fight off greedy corporate scientists. They wanted to capture the extremely dangerous alien organisms for research. You know, mess with their unique alien properties in test tubes, so that they could find a way to profit (while, inadvertently, putting the entire human race at risk).

Of course, in the “real” non-fictional world there is no such thing as greedy corporate scientists (willing to put our lives at risk). Why? Because it’s “Science.”

A Snowblower Divided

I am doing a deep dive inside my 1986 Toro 1132 Powershift snowblower — affectionately known as the “Torosizer.” It came apart just as easy as you might imagine a rusty, gravel driveway beaten, 35-year old snowblower might come apart. With a few choice words, liquid wrench, and sheer will, it is now laying in pieces across my garage floor. By the looks of it, I think I am now committed to this project.

With luck, after I get some new parts, these snowblower pieces will fit back together (with no extra parts left on the floor). The dream is to once again have a snowblower that will throw snow further than 3 feet and will start without being preheated with a hair drier.

A guy can dream can’t he?
