Celebrating my 69th solar orbit by bicycling in February in Montana — a first for us.
Sun Road On Summer Solstice
This is my last Going To The Sun Road video. I promise. Well, this year, anyway.
But it truly was dumb luck to be able to bike* — arguably one of our nation’s must scenic roads — virtually alone, all the way to Logan Pass. We missed the road’s automobile opening by two days. The Park never really tells you ahead of time when they will open it to the masses. It is always a springtime guessing game.
Now, through the summer, it will be packed with cars and congestion.
The above 3-min. video captures some of the pre-season majesty. It is normal speed — not sped up like the two previous videos.
Marlene and I will not likely return to the Park until post-season.
BTW, those two running girls ran all of the way up to the pass.

*ebikes (I guess if Mark McGwire needs an asterisk, so do we)
Going To the (Solstice) Sun Road 2.0
Last week Logan Pass was closed. But not yesterday. So we returned and celebrated the longest day of the year by seeking the “high sun” via Glacier National Park’s famous Going To The Sun Road via *bicycles.
Cold early start, but a beautiful, clear, sunny day! Few people. Still no cars allowed, except a few Red Jammer buses and Park employee vehicles.
Of course, what goes up, must come down. Below is 2:20 min. of rolling 3,242-feet and 13-miles “down” the Going To The Sun Road.

Frosty Heights
While much of the country is dealing with a heat wave, we are hoping for just enough warmth to clear the recent mountain snow for another crack at biking Going-To-The-Sun-Road.
If we are lucky, they will open Logan Pass to bikes before they allow the busy summer car traffic to begin.
IMHO, you’d have to be crazy to bike this narrow, cliff-carved road with sightseer-filled cars close by your side.
Back To The Sun Road
We just did a pre-season, automobile-less Going-To-The-Sun-Road bike ride on a picture perfect day.
There is a short window on this fabled Glacier National Park road — between snow removal and the busy summer auto traffic — for bikes/hikes only.
We did it years ago on our snail-bikes, but this time we used our cheater e-bikes. Since it involves quite a climb, e-bikes have made this once semi-obscure event, now very popular.
