While I don’t have the photo to prove it (I’m not fast enough), we saw a flying bear this past weekend.

Visiting our friends at their remote, rustic cabin on the east side of Flathead Lake, we in fact saw eleven black bears. This is a common occurrence for our friends, but we have never seen so many bears in the wild.

When we left at sunset, they told as watch for running bears escaping from the nearby cherry orchard. Indeed, we encountered just that. Bears shapeshifting under electrified wire fences and one bear appearing to fly off of the top of very tall fence. And these were not little bears.

Apparently, our approaching car made them fearful that they were going to be shot at — likely a message they have received from the orchard owner.

I guess our friends get frequent grizzly visits too, so they usually pack heat while walking their property.

The old roof served this house well for 27 years — through snow, ice, hail, and high winds. But, the intense sun has finally taken its toll. It is time for the old to retire and to make room for the fresh new asphalt upstarts.
