PS: After seeing this “unknown” Cilla Black’s 1980s Christmas special mocked mercilessly on Twitter for a day, someone pointed out that she was indeed known, (particularly) in the 1960s.
This former Liverpool’s “Cavern” coat-check girl was introduced to the Beatles agent by a young, not-yet-widely-known, John Lennon — whose upstart band regularly performed at The Cavern.
If you were around in the 60s (as I was in my Laddybuck days) you might recognize this Burt Bacharach / Hal David classic, that Cilla Black (and Dionne Warwick) made into a #1 hit:
