-24 degrees in nearby West Glacier this morning. A bit warmer here, with steam rising off of the lake (balmy -8).

BTW, those are our winter navigation lights — easily mistaken as Christmas lights.

Water Colors

The cold temps have kept us indoors this week, so I’ve been reviewing some of my autumn Flathead Lake shoreline sky shots.

These fascinating colors, shapes, and values need to be attempted with watercolors. Maybe if we get another cold week…

The Pink Flash

A rare sighting of the Pink Flash. True, she rides up the mountain with me, but once set loose on the trail, I don’t see much of her. She quickly leaves me behind in the dust (or snow).

But at least before she pulls away, she always turns to me and says, “Hasta la vista, baby!”

Into The Fog

When we wake up to winter inversion fog, we usually check the Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort webcam to see how high the fog reaches. We are at 3,200′ and they top out at 7,000′

Sometimes, by driving up 2,000′ to 4,000′, we can get above the fog and into full sunlight. However, sun does not look to be in the cards this morning.

I know, I live in the Northwest (mountains, tall trees, and fog). What do I expect?

Salt, Sand, & Snow

A year ago we were carefree beach bikers. But the “crazy climate” we are immersed in put the kibosh on it for this winter. So, we are back to XCountry skis.

I enjoy the skiing, yet I do miss the sand and salt air and the not-so-comforting rattle of my rusty bike chain.
