Marlene and I are pleased to announce our second annual home/studio watercolor workshop, May 13-17, 2024.
A Pirate Looks at Seventy-Seven
As a billionaire master marketer, it is hard to believe Jimmy Buffett was the carefree, margarita sipping, sailing dude that he depicted — but, regardless, it was fun believing he was.
In our previous life as Florida sailors, his music was naturally often in the background. Such great memories.
Sail on Jimmy!
The Last Plank

After a 10-month hiatus, we have resumed our wraparound deck renewal project. With its 10ish-feet height off of the ground, significant water structural damage, and very difficult to remove old planking, this has turned out to be a bigger project than we had imagined. It will be well worth it in the end, but I won’t want to do this twice.
Here I am removing the last old plank. Many of the plank screws were decayed and would strip out during the removal and many of the planks were screwed underneath the siding, making for slow, tough going.
The new lumber/new decking rebuilding phase will now be a relative pleasure.
We are really fortifying this new deck and taking measures to prevent future water damage. It is our hope that archeologists will one day dig it out and stand in awe!
Beaver Stress
Substitute with potato chips and this could be (has been) me.
Seals & Wheeler
By accident, I came across this music video gem and learned some interesting things about both “relatively” unknown artists, Dan Seals and Cheryl Wheeler.
I was not aware that “England Dan” (of England Dan & John Ford Coley fame) was the younger brother of Jim Seals (of Seals & Croft fame). Sadly, he died of cancer in 2009 at the age of 61. He’s probably best known for the songs I’d Really Love To See You Tonight and the Marie Osmond duo, Meet Me In Montana.
Addicted (above) is a Cheryl Wheeler written song that he once recorded. Here, they perform together back in 2008. Wheeler, I have since learned, is quite an underrated singer/songwriter. Below, is another example of her great work:
I could not find a live version of Cheryl Wheeler singing the above song, but I think it is one that best shows off her vocal and lyricist skills.
If you were around, you will recognize the above from 1976.
